Astro Calibration

Post by LSDavinci »

Hello
so seems it's taking a while for me to get proper tracking. one PITA is getting the calibration right as when I GOTO something like Sirius, it'll slew to the almost exact opposite direction. I'm assuming it's the direction of the phone when placing it next to the Polaris for calibration. Thought I got it but then it happens again. I blame user error until I can prove otherwise.

I thought it was the camera part of the phone that points in the direction of the actual scope/camera so I thought I adjusted for that and then the same thing happens again. is there set hard rule as to the direction of the phone against the polaris?

on the same note, if once it's calibrated (even incorrectly, does manually slewing to a star, centering and begin tracking, does that correct the calibration? Thanks in advance.

A bit late to reply, but with calibration your phone should be in the opposite direction of your lens/camera. Otherwise your calibration will be 180 degrees off. Once you align with a certain object that is corrected. Other reasons for bad calibration is if your tripod is not level or if your phones compass is not calibrated. If you want to recalibrate you can do so under ‘help’ if I recall correctly.

I am having the same issue. When aligning with android phone, it is oriented 180° opposite. I tried calibrating with the phone opposite, but it did not work. The device is now useless. It worked last year. I dont use it often. Latest update was installed. Dont know what else can be done. Compass on the phone works well.
