Cellular units have still to be shipped by Benro - but I anticipate doing some remote nature photography of shy animals and went for that edition as a means to set up and retreat a long way away.
I'm not sure if the cellular unit/camera will go into sleep mode until "called" - information is limited and without a unit to physically test, I'm unable to do the trial and error bit.
Had I just gone for the WiFi Astro edition - I might have had a unit in my hands by now as I'm #1107 in Europe (the Astro might even get more use than remote wildlife).
Maybe not having my unit to hand yet is a blessing in disguise as a lot of bugs are being sorted out by the people who have theirs already.
Cellular unit uses
Re: Cellular unit uses
I suppose us cellular users with be testing it cellular capabilities when we receive them. I’m backer #28 and this is the only bit of equipment I’m waiting for to complete all that I need.
Re: Cellular unit uses
When backing I had similar use cases in my mind. For me it was more filming, but I admit I was unsecure if:
- Polaris will support European cellular networks / sim cards
- The movement will silent enough not to scare the animals
- I want to be that far away of my video equipment
But I can't wait to get by hands on the Wifi version. Possibly if it convinces me I will upgrade.

Re: Cellular unit uses
I got a SIM from my provider and I tried to use it in Polaris.
According to my provider, the APN is 'internet', no username, no password, no authentication.
To connect, I have to use a PIN.
When I try to set above setting in Polaris, I always get a 'APN info setting failed' error message.
Is there someone who could bring a mobile connection to life?
Update: When I delete the PIN (while in a smartphone) I can configure the APN in Polaris successfully.
However, I can't connect via mobile network. In the app I can search for the device, but get no connection.

Re: Cellular unit uses
I reported the issue to Benro support, and within a few days I got two new apk's to try.
The version I got today solved the problem. I'm able to connect with Polaris via cellular network.
